Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sodebo, a French agri-food manufacturer, plans to hire 300 new employees in France in 2024 to meet rising production demands. This hiring initiative is part of a broader €50 million investment that seeks to enhance production and streamline inventory management, allowing the company to deliver fresher products to consumers and better meet market expectations.
Established in 1973, Sodebo is a family-owned business that has become a significant player in the French agri-food industry. As of 2022, it employed 2,900 workers. Sodebo has consistently increased its workforce as part of its growth strategy, adding 170 out of 200 employees announced for 2024: Sodebo 2024 - FR, 280 out of 300 announced in 2023: Sodebo 2023 - FR. In 2021, Sodebo announced a recruitment for 242 positions and hired 280 person: Sodebo 2021 - FR.
*** Updated, 11/11/2025*** As part of the recruitment of 530 in maintenance and 20 in bakery, the company reported a workforce of nearly 3,000 workers, suggesting that only 100 out of the 300 workers announced were recruited in 2024.
