Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 21 October 2024, paper factors Meldorf has filed for insolvency affecting the jobs of 133 employees.
The company was founded seven years ago and sought to produce corrugated raw paper from alternative source, using alternative fibres and wastepaper for its paper production. The company stated that rising energy and material prices as well as shrinking prices and declining sales led to the opening of the insolvency proceedings.
An insolvency administrator has been appointed and is already taking stock of the company's situation. Employees' wages are guaranteed by the "insolvency money" for another 3 months.
