Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Forvia, a French global automotive manufacturer and supplier, is cutting 72 out of 300 jobs at its Bains-sur-Oust factory (Ille-et-Vilaine) as part of a broader plan to reduce 10,000 positions across Europe until 2028 to enhance competitiveness.
Initially announced in February, the plan projected a reduction of 80 to 90 jobs at the site, with two-thirds of the cuts in manufacturing roles and the remaining third in administrative positions. The factory faced pressure of potential closure at the time. Following the announcement, voluntary departures reduced the number of layoffs to 72. After negotiations with trade unions, six jobs were preserved due to their critical roles. As a result, 66 employees will be let go on December 3rd.
