Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC), with a decision on October 15, 2024, launched a voluntary redundancy program, expected to include up to 661 employees This program is part of the plan for the permanent closure of two additional lignite units of PPC (in Meliti, Western Macedonia with 160 employees, and Megalopolis in the Peloponnese with 501 employees).
The program offers a financial incentive for those who participate, ranging from €35,000 to €110,000. The exact amount will depend on factors such as years remaining until retirement, number of children, and other criteria. Applications will begin on November 1 and will continue until February 28, 2025. Alongside the voluntary redundancy, a transfer program to other job positions will also be available in the areas where the lignite units will be closed.
