Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
UniCredit, one of Italy's most important banks, reached an important agreement with the main trade unions in the banking sector, providing for a staff renewal plan. The programme provides for a balance between retirements and new hirings: specifically, against 1000 employees who will leave the company, there will be the entry of 750 to 950 new resources (including 500 young professionals, 250 positions for natural replacements and 200 at headquarters). The new hires will take place in the two-year period 2025-2026. The negotiation brought the company's request on the exits from 1600 to 1000 workers, providing for a retraining programme for the 600 workers. One-third of these retrained professionals will go to strengthen the branch network within the next year.
