Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bystronic, a Swiss technology company in the design and production of machines for industrial automation, has announced the closure of its plants in San Giuliano and Fizzonasco, in the Milan area. The two closures will lead to the dismissal of around 150 people.
The trade unions responded with various protests and by obtaining a meeting with Assolombarda, the association of industrialists in Lombardy, which, however, did not lead to a positive turnaround, with the company's decision to continue with the redundancies.
