Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 09 October 2024, the glass manufacturer Pilkington Deutschland, belonging to the NSG Group, is cutting over 100 jobs at its plant in Gladbeck.
The exact number has not yet been determined, but up to 150 job cuts are possible. A production line at the site will be shut down. The company attributes the decision to reduced demand in the German and European glass markets, which has resulted in excess production capacity. Talks are in progress with the works council and the union to establish a social plan.
Currently, around 450 people are employed at the Gladbeck site.
