Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 04 September 2024, the sanitary wholesale company Sanitop-Wingenroth from Warendorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, has announced that it will dismiss its entire workforce of 230 employees.
Part of the workforce is still on site to process the last orders. In May 2024, the company filed for bankruptcy. An investor had been sought, and although there was an interested party, the negotiations were unsuccessful. The company is one of the largest in Warendorf, and both the employees and the mayor of Warendorf reacted with shock to the company's closure.
