Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Meta, the American parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has announced a plan to cut 94 out of 358 jobs from its workforce in France.
As of January 2024, its unknown which units are affected by the restructuring. However, it is known that the artificial intelligence research teams in Paris will not be affected.
The announced restructuring plan allows for voluntary departures, changes of assignment and career developments. With some employees having voluntarily left the company during the negotiations, the number of dismissals will not be greater than 88 according to an agreement with the Social and Economic Committee.
The restructuring has been brought on by a need to adapt to market developments and simplify organisational structure.
