Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Dutch firm WeTransfer has announced a restructuring programme, including the loss of 260 jobs.
The Italian company Bending Spoons recently acquired We Transfer. The new CEO, Luca Ferrari, announced that 260 jobs will cut, which is around 75% of the total 350 jobs. According to the CEO, if WeTransfer was smaller and more focused, it could operate better on a long term basis. However, there was no stress situation within the company prior to the announcement. The employees in Amsterdam expected the job cuts, but did not expect that 260 jobs would be cut. It is unknown which jobs exactly will be cut, and from which unit they are.
WeTransfer is a tech company that allows users to send big files. WeTransfer operates mainly in Amsterdam, but also in locations in the UK and the USA.
