Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Giano 1264, a company of the Fedrigoni group operating in the production of Fabriano paper, has declared its intention to shut down operations at one of its facilities. This decision will result in job losses for workers across various departments, including production, maintenance, logistics, and administrative roles.
The plants produce special paper of certified pure cellulose used in various office areas, including photocopiers, fax machines and laser printers.
The group's decision stems from the excessively low margins found in the industry, coupled with a drop in market demand.
Following the decision, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy will convene a meeting to try to find a solution to mitigate the impact of the decision to close.
