Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bayard, a French ready-to-wear clothing company, is closing its doors, impacting a workforce of approximately 130 to 150 employees across France.
The decision to close all 56 remaining shops as of October 5 is in response to a significant decline in sales, which dropped from €22 million to €18 million, further exacerbated by the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having been in receivership for a year without securing a buyer, the company has now been declared bankrupt. This closure will notably affect workers in Quetigny (Côte-d'Or), where the company’s headquarters are located.
