Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 01 October 2024, the beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola plans to close five production and logistics sites in Germany over the course of 2025, resulting in 500 job cuts.
200 jobs will be relocated to other sites in Germany, and 80 new positions will be created. The affected locations are in Cologne, Neumünster, Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, Bielefeld, and Memmingen. These sites belong to Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, which is responsible for bottling, sales, and distribution of beverages in Germany. The closures are intended to increase capacity utilisation at other sites in Germany and make production more efficient.
The company employs 6,500 people in Germany across 27 locations.
