Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 30 September 2024, Lufthansa plans to close its two subsidiaries, Airport Services Leipzig (ASL) and Airport Services Dresden (ASD). This decision will affect 140 employees.
A date for the closure has not yet been set. Tasks such as aircraft handling will be outsourced to external service providers in the future. The company states that continued operations are no longer economically viable.
This decision follows labour disputes between the employer and the Verdi union at both companies. The bargaining rounds have so far not resulted in an agreement. Verdi had called for a full-day strike by Airport Services employees on 02 October 2024.
