Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Levantina Group, a marble and granite company based in Alicante (Spain), has proposed an Employment Restructuring file (ERE) that would affect 244 of the total 800 employees.
This ERE has been presented and initially discussed with the workers’ representatives to reach an agreement on the final ERE’s implementation. According to the company, this ERE is due to economic, organisational and production related causes and the need to ensure the profitability of all its operating units.
From a geographical perspective, this ERE would impact around 75% of the Levantina Mármol (marble) units in Novelda (approximately 160 workers) and 50% of those working at the Monte Coto quarry in El Pinó (77 workers), with an additional ten employees from the quarries in Albacete and Vallanca, Valencia. After the labour adjustment, the Novelda Plant would keep 60 employees and the Monto Coto quarry around 70 workers.
