Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 23 September 2024, multinational technology company Amazon has opened a new large logistics centre in Dummersdorf near Rostock. Up to 500 new jobs are expected to be created there by the end of 2024.
In the medium term, around 1,000 people are expected to work there, which would make the logistics centre one of the largest employers in the region. This is already Amazon's third location in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
In Germany, Amazon has 36,000 permanent employees across more than 100 locations. This is the fourth expansion of Amazon in Germany in a year. Two other new logistics centres were opened in Germany in August 2023 Amazon-2023-DE, July 2024 Amazon-2024-DEa, and lastly, August 2024 Amazon-2024-DEb.
