Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The machinery and plant manufacturer Schuler, specialised in the manufacturing of presses, is cutting 474 jobs in Germany, spread across various locations, due to internal restructuring.
The Gemmingen site is affected with approximately 174 planned job cuts, and the Weingarten site will be shut down with 300 employees losing their jobs. Some of the jobs to be relocated to other German locations. The company is responding to the challenging economic environment in the automotive industry.
Management plans to enter into negotiations with employee representatives and aims to conclude these discussions by the end of 2024. The company employs 5,000 people worldwide.
