Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swedish company Telia announced that it will reduce 3,000 positions across the group, while in Lithuania Telia group companies plan to reduce the number of employees by approx. 400 positions, including approx. 200 positions in the telecommunications subsidiary Telia Lietuva, and approx. 200 positions in the subsidiary Telia Global Services Lithuania.
These redundancies are part of changes aimed at streamlining Telia Company's operations in the Nordic and Baltic countries. As part of the restructuring, the Group also intends to decentralise most of the activities of the general divisions and to transfer decision-making to each country. According to the company, business is being digitalised, artificial intelligence is being used more and more widely, and the company aims to attract the best talents; unfortunately, growing investment and talent retention also entail the need to rationalise jobs.
Consultations with Telia Lietuva trade unions have started on better redundancy conditions. These consultations are expected to be completed by mid-October and the new organisational structure with fewer employees should come into effect from December 2024.
Telia Company Lithuania is now in its fourth decade: Telia Lithuania has been successfully operating in the country for more than 32 years, Telia Global Services Lithuania – for more than 29 years.
The current worldwide restructuring programme of Telia has been recorded in the ERM events database Telia-2024-WO.
add bold textUpdated 22/10/2024 Telecommunications firm Telia Lithuania (Telia) will lay off 102 employees as part of an effort to streamline its operations. Earlier, the firm announced laying off around 200 employees. However, the number is reduced to 102. The reduced number of layoffs is due to natural staff turnover, an absence of hiring for certain planned roles, and the removal of some positions which were replaced by external consultants. Telia also said that it is changing the business model and decentralising the firm.
