Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swedish manufacturer of agricultural machinery Väderstad has initiated cooperation negotiations with a plan to cut 100 jobs at its facility in Väderstad, Sweden. The job cuts affect both white-collar and blue-collar employees, who are facing 70 and 30 cuts respectively. Employment effects start at the end of 2024.
Väderstad states that the past year has been financially difficult as demand of new agricultural machinery has been negatively affected by the dire economic situation of the agricultural sector. The now announced lay-offs are following an already large savings programme implemented in the past year. In the spring of 2024 Väderstad let go 45 employees as well as discontinued contracts with external consultants.
Väderstad had 1,206 employees in September, 2023.
