Description

Bosal, an international manufacturer of automotive components based in The Netherlands, has announced the dismissal of all 135 employees at its plant in Pedrola (Zaragoza) as a result of the loss of the contract with Volkswagen, for which it manufactures exhaust pipes and which accounts for 80% of the plant's workload. It is the group's only plant in Spain.

The company has already presented an employment redundancy file (ERE) and has set up a negotiating table with the social partners to address the situation. The unions have indicated that, in the event that the situation cannot be reversed, they will advocate for reducing job losses as much as possible, considering relocations or obtaining the maximum severance pay.

The company has not clarified what will happen to the remaining 20% of the workload that is not related to the lost Volkswagen’s contract.

Updated, 2nd August 2024

The Federation of Metal Companies of Zaragoza (FEMZ), alongside trade unions CCOO Industria Aragón and UGT Fica Aragón, have requested Bosal to demonstrate social responsibility and provide appropriate financial compensation for the affected workers following the introduction of an ERE file for the 135 employees at the Pedrola plant in Zaragoza in July 2024. In this sense, the company has expressed its financial inability to fulfil these financial compensations. Additionally, all entities involved have highlighted that Bosal's case is an isolated incident and does not reflect the common practices of companies in the sector
