Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lear Corporation, an American automotive components supplier, will lay off 960 employees at its plant in Pikutkowo.
The decision for restructuring is reported to be driven by changing market conditions, not the quality of work. The layoffs will affect 87% of the workforce of the plant. On the 20th of June, the company's representatives proposed a voluntary redundancy programme for employees with financial gratification from the employer. The trade union "Solidarność" is actively negotiating for better terms and to provide legal support to protect workers' rights.
Lear Corporation has operated in Poland for 22 years with 8 plants, employing 11,000 people.
