Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German multinational Henkel closes its detergent factory in Körösladány, Southern Great Plain. As a result, some 500 employees will be laid off.
The closure is a part of a reorganisation of the European supply chain of the Henkel Consumer Brands branch, due to the change in consumer preferences. The Körösladány factory has exported most of its output to other European countries. The plant will stop producing by the end of July and the closure will be completed by the end of 2024. The management emphasised that the closure has nothing to do with the employees' work performance.
The company will offer the employees a severance package above the statutory minimum and also provide training and job search support. The managemenet will cooperate with the workers' representatives. The government announced that it would help the workers land new jobs.
The other Hungarian production site of Henkel – which produces adhesives – will continue its operation.
