Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Beaulieu has announced it will be ceasing all its activities in Belgium, leading to closures of all its facilities and 170 workers will lose their job. Concretely this means that the facility producing Yarn for rugs and car mats based in Komen will be closed and the production will be moved to France and China. Also the Oostrozebeke plant will be closed, resulting in the loss of 30 jobs. In total approximately 170 employees are at risk of losing their job, with around 40 having the option to shift to French facilities (which 4 km away from Komen). The goal of the measure is to concentrate and rationalise production.
As required by law, the information and consultation phase has been launched.
