Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Webuild, an Italian multinational in the construction industry, has announced that it will hire around 10,000 people in 2024, including 2,500 in Italy. It also specified that 80 % of the new hires will be in Southern Italy.
The motivation is the high growth in the first half of 2024 and the increase in projects in the coming years (in particular on the railway lines in the Italian regions of Sicily and Campania). The new hires will bring the number of the company's employees worldwide to 90,000.
Webuild is dedicated to investing in workforce training and development, exemplified by the establishment of the Cantiere Lavoro Italia program, a training center designed to attract young and unemployed individuals. Of the 2,500 new positions in Italy, 1,000 will be filled by candidates from this research and training initiative.
