UPM, a Finnish pulp and paper manufacturer headquartered in Helsinki, has announced the loss of 135 jobs at its site in Hürth, North Rhine-Westphalia.
UPM Communication Papers announced the permanent closure of its newsprint mill in Hürth. The measures would lead to a reduction of the annual capacity of 330,000 tonnes of newsprint. The reason given for the job cuts is the decline in demand for graphic papers in recent years.
The number of jobs affected in Hürth is estimated at around 135. The participation procedure with the works council will be initiated immediately in accordance with local legislation. With the planned closure, the production of graphic papers is to be discontinued by the end of 2024 at the latest.
