Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
ArcelorMittal Spain, the Spanish subsidiary of the multinational steel manufacturer, has announced in May that it will cut 131 jobs in Asturias, but some also in the Etxebarri plant (Basque Country).
The management of ArcelorMittal in Spain has agreed with the trade unions UGT and USO an employment redundancy file (ERE) for "organisational reasons".
This labour adjustment is motivated by the need to "amortise" certain jobs as a result of the "deterioration of the company's activity in recent years, both in terms of income and production volume", according to the multinational.
ArcelorMittal España did experience another internal restructuring process in 2023, with 440 jobs being cut (ArcelorMittal España-2023)
