Description
Japanese electronics and entertainment group Sony has announced that it will cut about 900 jobs worldwide.
The restructuring programme will be implemented across the company’s PlayStation division in all regions, including PlayStation studios in the United States, the UK and Europe. In the UK, the company is to close its London Studio and cut employment at Firesprite Studio. In Europe, Dutch studio Guerilla Games will cut its employment by 40 jobs. The conditions of the programme will be negotiated with employee representatives according to local regulations; the programme will include a severance package.
Sony decided to cut approximately 8% of its workforce at its PlayStation division due to challenges in the videogame industry following the COVID-19 pandemic.
