Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The automotive supplier Valeo has announced 430 job cuts, mostly at its Bavarian sites. Several locations are affected, including 280 jobs in Ebern, 90 jobs in Erlangen and 12 jobs in Bad Rodach.
The job cuts are due to a merger of the Drive Systems and Thermal Systems divisions. The exact details of the restructuring plan have not yet been finalised, but according to the company, the job cuts will be carried out in as socially responsible a manner as possible. The social partners and works councils will now negotiate a possible social plan for the remaining sites.
At the end of 2023, Valeo employed a total of 8,000 people at 24 locations in Germany. The job cuts are the result of a comprehensive restructuring of the company [Valeo 2024 - World] (https://apps.eurofound.europa.eu/restructuring-events/detail/200702).
