Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Steklarna Rogaška glass factory, which belongs to the Finnish Fiskars Group, has announced 155 redundancies. After around 140 redundancies in 2023 (see Steklarna Rogaška – SI), the Finnish Fiskars Group has announced further layoffs in Steklarna Rogaška. Modernising the plant and improving its competitiveness will lead to the loss of up to 155 jobs.
The €15 million for the period 2024-2026 will optimise the production capacity for premium and luxury glass products. In the press release, the company's management stated that it has started negotiations with its employees about the planned changes.
Redundancies, albeit on a smaller scale (18 roles), have also been announced at Iittala and at the distribution centre in Billnas, Finland.
