Description

The American car manufacturer Tesla has announced 400 job cuts at its German site in Grünheide, Brandenburg.

The reason for the job cuts are sales difficulties. Tesla is particularly struggling with the often cheaper competition from China. This is why Tesla wants to cut 400 permanent jobs at the electric car factory in Grünheide (Oder-Spree). The announced cuts will reduce the number of employees from 12,500 to 11,800. In future, Tesla intends to use temporary workers in particular to compensate for fluctuations. According to Tesla, it wants to avoid redundancies and has therefore launched a volunteer programme for employees who want to leave the company.

The members of IG Metall in the newly elected Tesla works council demanded that the staff cuts be stopped. Although the trade unionists are the largest group in the employee representative body, they do not have a majority.
