Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Vodafone Germany, a subsidiary of the British Vodafone Group headquartered in Düsseldorf, has announced the reduction of around 2000 jobs.
The reason for the job cuts is a package of measures to save around €400 million over the next two years. However, investments will be increased in high-growth areas such as the cloud and corporate customer business. Personnel costs will be reduced through savings and the relocation of around 2,000 jobs - also because manual activities will be carried out through increased automation in future. Vodafone has announced its intention to proceed in a socially responsible manner with the staff reduction programme. The programme would affect 13% of employees.
Vodafone Germany has been undergoing a process of change for years. The company had already cut jobs a year ago in order to reduce costs Vodafone 2023 - DE.
Vodafone currently has around 15,000 employees in Germany, around a third of them in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, and generates total annual sales of around €13 billion.
