Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of Mayoly Spindler pharmaceutical laboratories in Chatou (Yvelines), has announced a reorganisation that will lead to cut up to 69 jobs on a total of 550 employees. Since December 2023, the company had been planning to reorganise its salesforce by bringing together 'two sales networks', which will have the impact of cutting 31 jobs and modifying 38 employment contracts (and lead to the same amount of job cuts if employees refuse the changes).
The company's social and economic committee, the Force Ouvrière pharmacy trade unions and the SEDIF-CFDT union (Energie-Chimie de l'Île-de-France CFDT) had applied to the interim relief judge of the Versailles administrative court to suspend the effects of this decision. However, the Versailles Administrative Court has approuved the implementation of the job protection plan (PSE), which was approved by the Île-de-France Regional and Interdepartmental Directorate for the Economy, Employment, Labour and Solidarity (DRIEETS). Therefore, then the company received a green light to implement the PSE.
