Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The telecom company Ericsson has announced a staff reduction of 1,200 employees in Sweden. This is due to a decrease in sales during 2023, and an expected continuation of a challenging market during 2024. The measure is part of the company's global initiative to improve its cost position, which includes headcount reductions of staff, streamlining of processes, and reducing the number of offices.
The company has initiated cooperation negotiations with trade unions, although the unions or union representatives within the company do not currently have information about what parts of the production will be affected.
The Swedish communications technology company Ericsson operates worldwide on all continents and has in total 105,000 employees. In Sweden, the company has about 14,500 employees.
