Mahle Electric Drives Slovenija (MEDS), the German manufacturer of electric drive systems and mechatronics for hybrid and electric vehicles, is relocating the production of starter motors to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will lead to 170 redundancies by 2024. In order to optimise production, the company is relocating production from Šempeter to a new factory in Aleksandrovac. The company stated that after the initial job adjustments, another 170 production-related jobs will be cut in 2024.
According to its representative, the trade union is looking for solutions to minimise the impact of the redundancies. It has reduced the originally planned reduction of 250 jobs to 170 and is now negotiating with the company management about the possibility of early retirement for 58 employees. At the same time, the union hopes that the number of redundancies can be further reduced by creating new jobs.
Mahle Electric Drives currently employs 1,800 people.
