Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Placed in compulsory liquidation, the northern France-based group Desmazières - ChaussExpo has been partially taken over by its competitor Chaussea (VGM holding group), as announced at the end of February when bids were submitted and 376 permanent employees will be made redundant. Out of 177 shops, only 74 will be taken over. In detail: 71 outlets will be taken over by Chaussea, 2 in western France by Chloé Diffusion, and one in Libourne by GDC (saving 9 employees). The 71 outlets have a total of 732 employees, but only the 239 permanent staff have been taken on. The remain employees see their fix-term contract ended (for 117) and a total of 376 employees on permanent contract will lose their jobs. Chaussea is thus strengthening its territorial coverage. All shops will come under the Chaussea banner by the summer. An investment programme is already planned to renovate them.
