Description
Zakłady Porcelany Stołowej "Karolina", which produces tableware in Jaworzyna Śląska, has stopped production, and 181 workers will be made redundant. The factory has been experiencing financial problems for years. The current difficult situation may have been caused by a shift in majority ownership; production in "Karolina" has been suspended for several months. Although a letter from the company's management regarding collective redundancies was received by the Solidarity trade unionists at the end of last week (9 February), the affected employees have not been officially informed of the redundancies. The majority of employees are women with many years of experience, and they will lose their jobs. Zakłady Porcelany Stołowej "Karolina" has produced porcelain since 1860. Products from Jaworzyna Śląska were sold in the American and Scandinavian markets, among others.
