Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chinese accumulator firm CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited) has already started to recruit employees for its Debrecen plant, to begin producing in 2025. At this stage, primarily qualified employees are recruited in the areas of production, maintenance, quality control, engineering, office work and logistics In the first half of 2024, the number of employees is to expand by about 50, with further expansion in the second half. The recruitment campaign is focussed on Debrecen and the surrounding areas. According to preliminary estimates, the plant personnel may exceed 9000 when reaching full capacity.
In the spring, several Chinese experts will arrive in Debrecen to train local employees by transferring high-quality, innovative technological knowledge.
The investment cost is €7.3 billion. The government covers a part of the investment cost by providing a subsidy of €800. Despite the magnitude of promised job creation, the investment is not popular among the residents of Debrecen, due to its massive water consumption and other environmental concerns
