Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The telecommunication company Vodafone Spain has announced a reduction of 374 employees in its workforce, which is equivalent to a 10% cut in the total workforce (approximately 3800 employees).
The reason for this reduction is the transfer of these people from Vodafone Spain to Vodafone Group, the British parent company, and due to the sale of the Spanish subsidiary to the British financial group Zegona (the transfer is conditional to the successful completion of the operation). These 374 employees, primarily composed of people that perform tasks in the Spanish subsidiary but also are involved in global responsibilities within the British multinational.
These 374 employees will move to a company called Vodafone Intelligent Solutions (VOIS), and they will keep their current working conditions.
