Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lidas, an Romanian bakery and pastry products company, hired 140 people at the beginning of 2024. The new jobs are created at the new frozen pastry and bakery factory it is building in Cataloi (Tulcea County). By the end of 2024, the company intends to hire another 60 people.
In 2022, the company started construction of its second bakery in Cataloi, an investment initially estimated at €46 million, half of which was secured through state aid. During the course of the project, the company managed to obtain further financing, resulting in a larger investment than initially estimated. The final investment was approx. €80 million.
Lidas has been on the market since 1993 and currently owns a factory in Mineri (Tulcea County), its own mill and 2 warehouses for storing raw materials before they are used in the production of bread, pretzels, rolls, cookies, salted bread and croissants. The company has its own network of shops, but also sells to other retailers and has its own distribution fleet. By December 2022, the company had 300 employees.
