Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The large Danish windmill company Vestas, has decided to scale down production in its production facility in Ringkøbing. In its first statement the company announced the dismissal of 200 employees, which was later cut down to 190 employees. The downscaling is due to lack of demand of land based windmills, which is build in Ringkøbing. The company will hire new employees in its productions plants for sea based windmills in Lem, Nakskov and Lindø.
Vestas has offices and production plants all over the world including Denmark and approximately 24,500 employees worldwide.
Update 25/1/2024: The amount of dismissals has been cut further down to 157 as the company announced that a group of employees has been transferred to the plant in Lem and thereby avoided dismissal.
