Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
NMBS, the Belgian national railway operator has announced it will be looking for 1300 additional employees in 2024. The positions are 400 are for train drivers, 300 for train conductors and 300 for technicians responsible for the maintenance and renewal of the trains. SNCB is also looking for about a hundred people to guarantee safety in the stations and on the trains. This includes both security guards and operators for the emergency centres. The hiring initiative goes beyond the replacement of staff that is leaving, the company intends to expand its business and services as well.
This is the second year in a row that high amount of employees will be hired. In 2023 approximately 1600 vacancies were filled in the company.
