Description
Car manufacturer Stellantis has announced the closure of the night shift at its plant in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), resulting in the loss of 600 temporary jobs, which in this sector are generally employed for periods of more than 9 months.
This decision is attributed to an unfavourable economic context, marked by the war in Ukraine, uncertainties over bonuses for electric vehicles in Europe and the price war on electric vehicles.
The Mulhouse plant produces electric cars, notably the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008. It employs around 4,300 people, including 1,600 temporary workers.
The unions have condemned this decision, which will result in job losses and a drop in production. They called on management to review its decision and find solutions to preserve jobs.
A previous job cut has been recorded in the ERM Database with 1,000 job cuts of temporary workers in 2019 Peugeot-Citroen-2019-FR.
