Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Clínicas Vivanta, a company dedicated to dental health, has announced an internal restructuring programme which involves the loss of 249 jobs.
In December of 2023, Clínicas Vivanta presented an Employment Redundancy File (ERE) for a total of 337 workers. After several meetings with the trade unions, the final agreed upon number of affected workers is 249. The trade unions have expressed their satisfaction with this final agreement and the reduction of the number of people affected.
The ERE also foresees a financial compensation for 27 days per year of service for the affected employees, with a maximum of 14 monthly payments. These conditions surpass the initial conditions presented by the company, namely a compensation of 22 or 24 days per year of services, with a maximum of 12 monthly payments.
