Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The FCA Powertrain Poland plant in Bielsko-Biała, which produces automotive engines, has announced its closure, and all 468 workers will be laid off. The decision is explained by stricter EU emissions standards and an imminent ban on the sale of internal combustion vehicles, impacting falling orders and lower demand from global factories for new engines. The factory workforce will lose their jobs; redundancies will start in February and last until December 2024. The trade unions operating at the factory have been informed of the redundancies, and some employees will be offered a transfer to other Stellantis plants. FCA is part of the Stellantis group, a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation formed in 2021. The previous redundancies were announced in February 2023(FCA-2023-PL)
