Description
The regional government of Värmland has announced that they are facing a budget deficit for the oncoming year and will be reducing the number of employees by 750 in order to shore up funds. Whilst 450 of these reductions will be done through an hiring freeze (effective from the 01/12/23), 300 of these reductions will be done through direct dismissals. It is unclear, as of now, which departments that will be affected by the reductions.
The regional government of Värmland is expected to save SEK 700 million (€63 million) by 2025 through this measure. The reduction of staff has wide support from most regional political parties. The regional doctors' association representative however states, that the reduction will have severe consequences for the healthcare sector.
Currently, 8,600 people are employed in the regional administration, mainly within the healthcare sector.
