Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 13 December 2023, the German flooring manufacturer Windmöller will be cutting 100 jobs at it headquarters in Detmold as part of an internal restructuring.
The restructuring is a reaction to the economic situation. Massively increased costs, a high inflation rate and uncertainty among consumers make changes necessary. Measures include an optimised plant and location concept, the bundling of production capacities and organisational adjustments as well as the automation of the Detmold site. As a consequence, 100 employees will lose their jobs. The job reduction will be planned in cooperation with the works council and will be as socially acceptable as possible. There is no information on the timeframe of the restructuring available.
Windmöller currently has 3,100 employees worldwide.
