Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mærsk, a large global company focusing on commercial freight transport and logistics, is now planning to dismiss worldwide 2,500 during the next few weeks, of which approximately 200 in Denmark. The company experienced a large growth in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since then experienced a decline in demand. The company does not state exactly where and in which departments these dismissals will occur.
Mærsk CEO Vincent Clerc declares that the company has made the restructuring plans to cater for a more normal business environment after the COVID-19 crisis. During the year the company has stopped hiring on its local locations and departments and has thereby been able to reduce its staff.
