Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Danish Crown A/S is a large slaugtherhouse and food production company that has activities in several countries, but mainly in Denmark. The company has decided to cut down on its administrative staff and will lay off 160 employees. It has not been published where exactly the layoffs will take place, but the company has stated that there will be dismissals in several offices and departments. Some of them in international offices. For example the company shuts down their office in Hong Kong and move the tasks to their office in Shanghai. However it seems that most of the dismissals will take place in offices and departments in Denmark. The process is part of a internal restructuring plan in order to make the company more competitive.
