European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Window manufacturer Natre Vinduer will close its factory at Hemnesberget in northern Norway, after 99 years in operation. 103 employees will be affected and parts of the production will be moved to Natres factory in Gjøvik. It is not yet clear how many of the employees will be offered to transfer. The closure is part of a strategy to invest in fewer, more robust production facilities.
Natre Vinduer is part of danish corporation Dovista, which recently also announced the closure of its production facilities in Lian, Norway, which would have entailed an additional 100 jobs cut. The factory in Lian was subsequently sold to a holding company representing investments from a local bank, municipality and private investors, with the explicit aim of retaining the jobs and the production at the factory in Lian.
The closure of the factory at Hemnesberget is described as a major shock to the local labour market in the municipality with 4.000 inhabitants. Natre Vinduer reports to cooperate with the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration and has taken initiative for a joint job fair where previous employees can meet potential new employers.
