Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Odelo Slovenija, a subsidiary of the German-based Odelo (owned by the Turkish Bayraktarlar), announced up to 100 layoffs by the end of January 2024. Odelo, a producer of lightening equipment (complex taillight systems and LEDs) for automobile producers, is running short of orders. New orders are expected only during 2024. The company explained that customers changed orders on short notice due to problems in the supply chain, particularly in the supply of semiconductors. According to the Odelo management, the high energy prices, and price increase of raw materials combined with the inflation and the rise in interest rates negatively impacted productivity.
Trade union and the company agreed not to renew fixed-term contracts, terminate contracts with agency workers, and dismiss employees eligible for retirement.
